Now You Are Able To Monitor Your Motor Speed Outdoors!

Tuesday, May 22, 2012 by Lin Gorski

The new Dart Controls PU-R Series Pick-Up Speed Sensor will be ready for shipment in about 3 weeks!  Customers are already calling us about these and getting ready to order!

The Dart PU Series pick-up is an economical and reliable way to monitor motor speed. Its unique design provides ease of installation in otherwise difficult to reach areas. The PU pick-up operates at a 5 to 24 volt level producing a sharp square wave output, which may be fed into Dart’s field programmable tachometer, closed-loop control, counter, or any other digital device.

The NEW PU-R Series is outdoor duty rated: indoor or outdoor use; protection against access to hazardous parts, intrusion of solid foreign objects, (in this case, food would be a foreign object..oh,come on, you knew I HAD to throw something in here!) in addition to harmful effects due to the exposure of water (rain, sleet, snow, but not necessarily soda pop) and corrosion.  And, just like the PU-E Series, you can adjust the PPR's from 1 to 20 with a simple magnet disc change.

Call us now to be one of the first customers to order this product: 800-325-9653 .

Think of NEMA Ratings As Different Flavors Of Ice Cream!

Monday, May 21, 2012 by Lin Gorski

Yum...what a great topic!

The Marshall Wolf Automation Resource Page has quite a bit of general information, including General Resources, specific application stories plus our BLOG info.

I wanted to give you my spin on the more popular NEMA Ratings.   If you click on the highlighted areas of this BLOG, you can see a more descriptive explanation of each subtitle.

NEMA ratings are standards that represent general practices in the industry.  They define a product, process or procedure, such as Variable Frequency Drives,  Food Equipment Supplies, or a Capacitive Proximity Sensor.  Here are just a few of the various flavors (ratings).

NEMA Type 1 or 2   General Purpose Indoor (think of these as Vanilla)

NEMA Type 3R Rainproof and Sleet/Ice-Resistant – Outdoor

NEMA Type 3S Dust-tight, Rain-tight and Sleet/Ice-Proof - Outdoor

NEMA Type 4 Watertight, Dust-tight and Corrosion-Resistant – Indoor and Outdoor (Strawberry of course)

NEMA Type 4X Watertight and Dust-tight – Indoor and Outdoor

NEMA Type 4/12 Features of Type 4 and Type 12 combined (think of this as Strawberry & Chocolate in the same bowl!!)

NEMA Type 12 Industrial use – Dust-tight and Drip-tight - Indoor (Chocolate is ALWAYS the best!)

My BLOG titled "Marshall Wolf Is Your Best Resource " briefly discussed the IP ratings.  Watch for my next BLOG where I will dicuss the IP rating equivalency to the NEMA ratings.

Have you been to our Resource Page?  IP and NEMA Ratings can be confusing, but when you are talking about food (and you know how I LOVE that!) it is important to utilize the appropriately rated Photoelectric Proximity Sensors, Capacitive Proximity Sensor, or any other Food Equipment Supplies.  When creating your Custom Control Panels it is paramont to use the correctly rated products.

Just a quick note on IP Ratings:

IP First number = Protection against solid objects

IP Second number = Protection against liquids

Pepperl & Fuchs Miniature Proximity Sensors

Tuesday, May 15, 2012 by Lin Gorski

Everyone loves miniature candy bars, cup cakes and those cute little, pop in your mouth, muffins as they deliver precise target control - just like the all-stainless steel 8mm X-Series Pile Driver extended range sensors from Pepperl & Fuchs.

Marshall Wolf Automation is one of the premier Pepperl & Fuchs Distributors for these highly reliable extended range sensors.  Available in 8 mm diameter models with barrel lengths as short as 35 mm,  X-Series Pile DriverExtended Range Inductive Sensors have 100% stainless steel housings.  The single-piece machined barrel is fully embeddable in steel, making it an ideal sensing solution for the toughest metalforming and welding applications.

X-Series Pile Driver's extended sensing field is a big benefit in automotive manufacturing applications. The extended sensing field enables reliable detection of irregularly shaped contours and increased sensor-to-target distances which help eliminate contact-related scuffing of "Class A" hood, door and trunk surfaces.

Weld-immune models are uniquely capable of providing long range part detection with full immunity to both AC and DC weld fields, and repelling weld splatter.  X-Series Pile Driver sensors are IP69k-rated to withstand high pressure washdown cleaning.

You're Allowed To Push Our Buttons, Schmersal That Is!

Friday, May 4, 2012 by Lin Gorski

Schmersal has just developed a set of IP69K Rated products for applications that are capable of withstanding high temperature and high pressure washdowns.

Products with the IP69K rating system are perfect for environments where hygienic conditions are critical, such as food processing, medical equipment, meat packaging and pharmaceutical manufacturing applications. This is because of their flexible seals that protect the gaps between parts, limiting the places where food and particles would normally collect.

Schmersal IP69K products are also ideal for harsh outdoor environments, such as construction equipment, all-terrain vehicles, portable equipment automotive and marine applications.

Marshall Wolf Automation is your authorized industrial automation distributor for the full line of Schmersal products.  Contact us today at 800-325-9653 or visit us online at www.WolfAutomation.com for all your automation needs.

The Icing on the Cake for Menics Light Towers

Friday, April 20, 2012 by Lin Gorski

Hello to icing and Industrial Light Tower lovers everywhere!  Just as there are many flavors of icing (yes, I must mention food in my Blogs!)  there are various flavors of the Menics light towers.  The Menics PRE Series will not melt in your mouth and is just one flavor of this brand.  This particular LED light tower offers 1 to 5 lights in voltages of 12, 24, 120 or 240 volts.

The PRE Series can be purchased in a steady or flashing mode unit.  One of the best features and  the Icing on the Cake for this item would be the optional buzzer kit, so you can have both a visual and audible alert.

Since you have been so kind to read my Blog, here is my favorite Cream Cheese Icing recipe that has no buzz to it at all but will melt in your mouth: Mix together 1 stick softened butter, 8oz block softened cream cheese, 1 TBS ea. of Vanilla and Milk.  Add about 2 Cups of Powered Sugar, beat together till fluffy.

Remember that Marshall Wolf Automation is your Authorized Industrial Automation Distributor for not only the Menics Industrial Light Tower product offering, but also all your other Automation Control needs.

I Love Food!

Monday, April 16, 2012 by Lin Gorski

Yes, ask anyone here in the Marshall Wolf Automation office, I do love my food.  And part of the reason our food is safe to eat is due to the Baumer Electronic Sensors.   Baumer sensors are used widely in the food and beverage industry as the IP68 and IP69K ratings are required for the safe handling of food during manufacturing.  These should be a MUST for the OEM's Food Equipment Supplies lists.  As an example, the FxDR 14 sensors can even use existing stainless steel machine parts as a reflector.  This results in an easier installation and reduced maintenance effort.

Click here to see the Baumer Sensor Brochure.

Baumer Electronic Sensors have various options available which are:

  • FHDR - diffuse sensors with background suppression, 400mm sensing
  • FNDR - SmartReflect, 800mm sensing
  • FPDR - retroreflective photoelectric sensors, 3500mm sensing
  • FKDR - contrast sensor, 12.5mm sensing
  • FADR - distance sensor, 400mm sensing
