What type of Motovario motor are you looking for?  Motovario B Series Helical Bevel Gear Reducers and Gear motors offer more torque in a compact housing for easy adaptations into a wide range of applications!

Or is it the In-Line Helical Gear Reducers & Gear motors Motovario H Series? This series housing has wide bearing support seats. Wider supports mean better load and shock handling and less stress on the reducer housing!

Motovario MotorSmartBox H series housings have wide bearing support seats. The wider supports mean better load and shock handling and less stress on the reducer housing. The reducer feet, typically the focal point for torsion and other stresses, are relieved of some strain. By easing the stress on the reducer housing, reducer failure due to overhung load is eliminated.

How about the Smartbox Gear reducer?  The Modularity Concept of Motovario SmartBox™ means modular production and modular assembly for modular gear reducers. SmartBox™ is built with standardized parts, sharing gears, shafts, input sets and output shafts and flanges. SmartBox™ gear reducers are easily adapted for any application. With machined feet, tapped mounting holes and flange mounting available as standard, the SmartBox S Series can adapt easily to any application. Hollow bore or solid shaft output is also available, adding to the SmartBox S Series flexibility. Smaller SmartBox S Series units are also maintenance-free (sizes 050 and 060). These units are sealed and do not require a breather plug. All SmartBox PS and IS Series reducers are approved for the baking industry by BISSC.

Marshall Wolf Automation also carries Lenze motors, Weg motors and all of the variable speed motor drives to control the speed of your motor.

Variable Frequency Drives and Generators

Wednesday, August 3, 2011 by Scott Welch
An email repsonse from: scott@wolfautomation.com

I received the following from technical support at AC Tech Lenze. He is looking at this as a backup generator that would turn on and off in certain circumstances. In your case this is our permanent power supply. Being that we do not sell generators I do not have a very good background in that area. By looking at the information below the main concern seems to be the phase to phase control coming from the generator. If the generator manufacturer can give you more detailed information on the output of the generator itself you would have to make sure we are getting what we need to maintain a smooth running AC drive/motor combination.

Although switching from line power to a backup generator is an accepted practice in many applications, there are some limitations you should be aware of pertaining to our Variable Frequency Drives. Many portable backup generators have a larger voltage swing on their phase to phase voltage input than our recommended phase to phase voltage tolerance which must be less than 2%. Although our AC Drives are equipped with surge guards in the input rectifier circuit, it may be necessary to use external protection for severe input disturbances such as surge arrestors. Larger variances cause greater ripple on the DC bus caps and this will damage them and other power components over time. Our drives need a minimum of 2 minutes between cycling of power. Otherwise it can damage the charge relay circuit or at the very least will blow the input fuses or trip the circuit breaker.

In cases where input power has “moderate” spikes in voltage which causes current surges, a 3% line reactor may help the situation.

Another solution is to add a voltage monitor with a suitable time delay. It has a protection trip level that shuts down in cases of under-voltage, over-voltage, a loss of phase and voltage imbalance between phases. This device ensures that our VFD will not see unbalanced input power or never be powered up until these other voltage tolerances and proper delay times are met.

Soft Starters and Variable Frequency Drives

Friday, January 7, 2011 by Beckie Bordenaro

When you have motors that are started across the line a large amount of energy is used when accelerating quickly to full speed.

vfd ac driveVariable frequency drives (VFD's) are popular for applications such as fans, mixers, conveyors and compressors. Variable speed drives can be a key part of any energy management solution and will reduce stress on motors and equipment.

Soft starters are ideal for simple RUN/STOP applications and are also popular for pumps, mixers and fan applications that require a limited amount of starts and stops.

An advantage high performance AC drives have over soft starters is that it allows you control the speed.

If you'd like to talk to our technical department to see whether your application requires a variable frequency drive or a soft starter just contact us! 1-800-325-9653 or sales@wolfautomation.com.
