This episode of 'My Automation Education' is going to focus on kind of a niche product. However, for the necessary applications, Selco thermostats and temperature control products are a great fit. Selco’s direct sensing thermostats are ideal for use with heating and air conditioning systems as well as with industrial equipment. These Selco models are designed for maximum airflow around the thermostat to give quick and accurate response.
These units feature a bimetallic, temperature-sensitive disc for snap-action in opening and closing the switch contacts. The bimetallic disc is thermally and electrically insulated from the electrical circuit, eliminating self-heating effects. Only the temperature of the controlled equipment causes the switch to actuate.
Switch operation is rapid and positive due to the characteristics of the bimetallic disc and the wiping action of the current-carrying contacts. Contact chattering is virtually eliminated, as is false cycling and sparking. Exposed disc and single operation models are available.
Manual reset thermostats are widely used to control or protect high-power home appliances like dryers, dishwashers, home water heater, and solar heaters. The switch mechanism is actuated by a snap-action bimetal disc, which may be enclosed or exposed.
Made to open on temperature rise, these SPST devices are available in a variety of mounting configurations. Temperature calibrations are preset and typically built to order. These units are not
considered as “M2” trip free devices.
Applications include H.V.A.C., Major appliances, Medical/Lab equipment, Commercial food equipment and vending machines.
