I recently had a customer ask me what, if any, IP ratings our piezo electric buzzers carry.
My response was that we don't technically have a rating on them, however, they are fully epoxy sealed and are currently used in outdoor applications without any issues.
I did send him some other options that had higher ratings... and the pricing showed. Our line of little panel mount buzzers is extremely low cost.
I was quite happy to hear back from this customer (Jerry from SR Instruments, Inc.) who took matters into his own hands and submerged one of our little buzzers. It worked just fine!
He gave me his permission to retell this story and quote his email:
"I feel very comfortable using this in my application. While it doesn't carry the expensive testing label, it certainly complies with at least an IP67. It's a great value when a product can meet stringent test requirements without the cost."
