Digital Potentiometer for AC and DC Drives

The Dart DP4 series is a digital drive accessory for AC and DC drives that will accept 3-wire potentiometer input.

The DP4 is a digital potentiometer that is programmable and easy to read thanks to the 4 digit 1/2" LED display. The operator can adjust speeds in units directly related to the operation; conveyor FPM, pump GPM, 0-100%, etc.

The included gasket, when installed in a properly rated enclosure/panel with the DP4, will handle direct water washdown!

For regenerative drives the Dart Controls DP4 supports controlling both speed and direction via its output to the drive.

Two reasons customers use the Dart Controls DP4 is the repeatable settings and to improve the appearance/operation of their equipment.

Marshall Wolf Automation is your authorized industrial automation distributor for the complete line of Dart Controls speed control products!

Vented Enclosures

Saginaw Control and Engineering's Vented Type 3R Disconnect Enclosures are designed to house electrical controls,  variable frequency drives, instruments and components used in an outdoor environment to provide a degree of protection for the equipment inside the enclosure against the ingress of solid foreign objects (falling dirt); and provide a degree of protection with respect to the harmful effects on the equipment due to the ingress of water (rain, sleet, snow). This design incorporates a rain cap that acts as a solar shield to minimize solar heat gain, rain hood with filters for air intake, and cooling fans exhaust out the top to control internal heat load. The enclosures are designed to house most standard disconnects with three standard sizes available.

Choose your enclosure here and then have our integration department help you put together a complete control panel!  Just email them here!  Or read this blog about how to get an easy quote on NEMA 3R panels.

Marshall Wolf Automation has technical support on staff to help with all of your application questions.  We can also supply everything you need inside of your enclosure.  Call us for relays, circuit breakers, ac drives, etc!  Call us at 800-325-9653!

Panel Interface Connectors decrease risk, allow PLC or PAC access without opening the control panel

The industrial control panel, containing network equipment and programmable automation controllers, is central to operations. Having access to these controls on a routine basis is required for production management and manufacturing execution system (MES). However, accessing this equipment requires precautions necessary for safety and regulatory compliance.

One of the issues with control panel access is the risk of arc flash. Arc flash occurs when there is a release of energy caused by an electric arc. This arc flash creates a blast that, within a few milliseconds, reaches several thousand degrees Celsius and in turn causes severe burns and often death.

OSHA, in hand with NFPA 70E standards, requires anyone opening control cabinets to have training and wear protective gear. The requirements also include planning and assessment of hazard potential as well as area marking to include protective boundaries and warning labels. Needless to say, these efforts add up to a lot of time and money.

An alternative involves the use of a pass-through to access the automation controllers. Panel interface connectors (PICs) or access ports enable a user to test and maintain equipment without opening the panel. This arc mitigation solution alleviates the need for personal protection equipment (PPE) and the need for a trained electrician to de-energize the system.

Panel interface connectors mount to the outside of the control panel. A typical PIC will contain a power supply (single, duplex, GFCI) and one or more connectors commonly used for programmable devices. These connectors include D-Sub, RJ45/Ethernet, USB, DeviceNet, and others. Often there will be a 3-amp reset as well.

While there are situations when a system needs to be shut down for full access, using a PIC saves time and money and allows for testing and maintenance in an energized state. Making adjustments to equipment and network systems and having the ability to monitor changes in short order is a huge time savings.

Carlo Gavazzi True Delay On Release Timer

Carlo Gavazzi offers a comprehensive range of timers for mounting in the back of or for mounting on the front of panels. They offer a number of different housing types with either a SPDT or DPDT relay output. Covering most timing functions (On Delay, Interval, Off Delay, One Shot, Zero Speed, Star-Delta, and Recycler), their timers are suited for practically every application. Timers are frequently used in motor control centres, packaging machinery, HVAC equipment, control panels, and process control.

When you have only enough power to trigger the timer, try the DBB51 Series!  This timer is great for fan and light applications, hotel rooms and wind applications.  Thanks to their supercapacitor or rechargeable battery they continue to count time even without the power supply and switch the output relay at the end of this time.

Marshall Wolf Automation is proud to be an authorized industrial automation distributor of the full range of Carlo Gavazzi products.  Their range of counters includes both 6 and 8 digit types with counting inputs up to 10 KHz. Input signals can be contact/NPN, PNP, or AC voltage. Furthermore, their 1/16 DIN counter has a programmable relay output. In addition to their digital counters, they also offer 8 digit digital hour meters.

Variable Frequency Drive Recommendation

Customer Question:

For the attached fan selections from Twin City we need you to send us  variable frequency drive data sheet, wiring drawing  and quotation considering air freight for the same .

We have  three airflows as below needs to be achieved with varying the speed of fan as per sequence of operations for EF-14:

1.first speed -1000 l/s

2. second speed-720 l/s

3.Third speed-460 l/s

We need you to provide the following points mentioned below to interface VFD of EF-14 with the DDC Control Panel:

1.            On/ Off Command from DDC control Panel to VFD.

2.            Run Status from VFD to DDC Control Panel.

3.            Trip Status from VFD to DDC Control Panel.

4.            Analog (0-10v) signal from DDC Control Panel to VFD.

5.            Analog (0-10v) status from VFD to DDC Control Panel.

Answer:

Our AC Tech Lenze ESV152N02YXB will do the job as well as several other drives on our line card. The data on the word document and what is on the specification sheet are a little different. I am specifying a 230 volt single phase 2 hp (1.5 KW) drive Nema 1.

All six of the points are covered in this drive. This variable frequency drive offers multiple program set ups to handle the speed set points. External on/off commands as well as speed commands. There are relay outputs to communicate back to the DDC control as well as analog input and output capability.

What is an HMI?

An HMI is also known as a Human Machine Interface.  Sounds scary but they make our lives a lot easier!  When you are at the grocery store in the self-checkout lane, and you enter in the quantity of the limes you are buying for your Italian Margaritas this weekend (if you haven't tried one of these, please do so - you can thank me later!) then you have interacted with an HMI already. This medium for information exchange and mutual communication between electromechanical systems and the user allow the user to complete settings through touchable images or keys on the user-friendly window. This not only offers fast and convenient control of manufacturing automation, but also has replaced traditional control panels which need extensive wiring.

Delta DOP series Human Machine Interface provides various touch screens with multiple dimensions and colors and it also offers fast and convenient control functions for industrial automation machines. Moreover, programming the whole DOP series is done using the Delta Windows-based and user-friendly Screen Editor software. By using this software, the user can quickly edit images and graphs and set suitable communication protocol through Macro command.
