I received a call the other day from an existing customer building a new custom control panel to control industrial electric motors for a Car Washing System. He had been previously using EEC's ECX series 3 pole contactors but this time he was looking for a 3 pole contactor with the ability to obtain a VDC coil signal voltage.  Since the ECX series 3 pole didn't offer the DC coil voltage need, we reviewed his amp needs and looked at putting him into the TYPE EEC series providing the choices of DC coil needed.  This newly added series also provided the following improvements vs the ECX lower cost series.

I'm new at Marshall Wolf Automation. It is time to begin my education. Let the games begin!

The first lesson in 'My Automation Education' is on proximity sensors. Fans of war films and smartphones may know proximity sensors and not realize it. The same type of device that allows your smartphone to recognize your face and "close" your touch screen so you do not press unnecessary buttons while making a call also give anti-aircraft gunners a fighting chance.

But lets talk about a few more every day uses that may be interesting to you. Proximity sensors, in one way or another, can be used by the food industry (even those that manufacture food equipment supplies), roller coasters, as a sensor for paper breaks in the paper making process, car washing systems, even all types of conveyor systems.

What does a proximity sensor do? According to my good buddy Wikipedia, proximity sensors are used to detect the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact. There are many types: capacitive proximity sensors, laser distance measurement sensors, photoelectric proximity sensors - even miniature photoelectric sensors, and retroreflective photoelectric sensors.

We can spend future blogs diving deeper into the specifics of each sensor type. For inductive or ultrasonic sensors try the Baumer electric sensors line. The ICB Series are state of the art sensors with increased performance compared to standard inductive technology.

An all-new microprocessor provides greater reliability and repeatability. It also provides the opportunity for greater customization options, such as programmable outputs and programmable switching frequencies.

Another key innovation is the product’s environmentally friendly potting material. Made from recycled corn by-product, this new potting material features a higher resistance to mechanical stress, which increases the reliability and stability of the sensor, and thus contributes to a longer lifetime.

You know Carlo Gavazzi sensors, and you know them for the great equipment they make for car washing systems.  Now, Carlo Gavazzi is excited launch their new range of Grid-Tied PV Inverters. The ISGA Series features a transformerless design, which does not incorporate or require a cooling fan. Naturally, cooling fans have moving components which ultimately will fail, therefore their exclusion in the design leads to a longer, maintenance-free product life span. This is merely one of the reasons why the PV inverters are available with a warranty of up to 10 years.

The ISGA Series are available in 2kW, 3kW, 4kW and 5kW output sizes with a 240VAC 60Hz single phase output or three inverters combined for up to 6 to 15kW, 240VAC delta 3-phase 60Hz output. The inverter has an output efficiency up to 96.4%, with CEC ratings up to 95.5%. The ISGA Series inverter has a remarkable input voltage range of 150 to 450VDC, allowing customers to realize a significant increase in AC production time. Some models also offer the ability to connect two individual MPP inputs – again, allowing for an increase in production time. The input is protected from overvoltage, ground faults, reverse polarity and surges.

The ISGA Series inverters feature a user friendly LCD display and are easily installed via a quick-mount bracket. The built-in combination AC/DC disconnect switch also allows for quick installation without the need for a separate externally mounted disconnect switch. They have an environmentally robust and durable powder coated metal housing, with a NEMA3R outdoor rating, and can operate from -4° to 122°F (-25° to +50°C). The inverters also come standard with an RS232 output. However, RS485, Ethernet, USB and Web Server capabilities are available as options.
