The OADM series from Baumer Electric Sensors are used for measuring distance and we have had many customers purchase these laser distance measurement sensors to measure the distance between their race car and the race track.  Technicians are looking for optimum draft height using this series of laser sensor.  The OADM laser sensor is great at looking at rough surfaces, like tires or track, because it supplies a fine laser line in place of a focused laser beam.
