Patlite XP Signal Light vs. Rudolph

Illumination – Patlite XP Series lights can project up to 1,000m. Rudolph’s nose is based on 1939 technology. His nose projects up to 50m, and only after a good night’s rest and on a full belly. 

Weather – the Patlite XP Series is made from a light weight translucent AS resin. It can withstand heat, cold and water (rain/snow). We all know as you get older your body has a tough time handling weather changes. From the scorching desert to the snow packed tundra, Rudolph’s body begins to show wear and tear.

Impact Resistant – The Patlite XP Series AS resin body can withstand impact. With all of the airplanes, satellites, and meteorites in the atmosphere, Rudolph is at high risk of being pummeled. 

Color – the Patlite XP Series is available in Red, Amber or Blue. Rudolph is limited to Red. Depending on the circumstances an Amber or blue light may be more appropriate. When Santa is coming in for a difficult landing, Amber may be the way to go. Blue could be used as a special signal for the Elves. By implementing a color signal, Santa may make his route much more efficient.

These are just the opinions of a Mother, but I know I want to make sure Santa is able to complete his job in a timely and accurate manner. My boys would be devastated if Santa were not able to make it to our house. Do we want to continue to depend on Rudolph (old technology), or is it time to upgrade to the dependable, bright light of the Patlite XP Signal Light?

The Baumer HS35 Series of Incremental Hollow Shaft Encoders will work on your toughest machines. With standard IP 67 and -40 °F this series of encoders are ideal for outside operations. Reinforced shaft inserts provide isolation against shaft currents. Pepperl+Fuchs GLV18 Series photoelectric sensors are now available in Transparent Object Detection as well as Background Suppression. This series can detect clear objects up to 2.5 m away and opaque objects up to 5 m away. Objects with a contrast as low as 18% can be detected, including glass or a clear film. This detection makes these sensors ideal for material handling applications. Shrink wrap or semi-transparent cartons can be detected with the GLV18 series. 

These sensors are also perfect for space savings as well as cost savings. The GLV18 protrudes less than other M18 cylindrical sensors, so conveyors or equipment can be placed closer together and ultimately consume less space. Every sensor includes a flush-mount bracket that allows for a simple, tool-less, unobtrusive means of mounting the sensor on a conveyor. GLV18 sensors consume up to 50% less current than other M18 cylindrical photoelectric sensors, so it costs less to operate each sensor. Lower power consumption enables each power supply to power more sensors, so fewer power supplies may be needed.

Phase Monitors are protective devices that can shut the compressor down if there’s a problem with the incoming power.  There are different versions that can sense all or some of the following:

• Unbalanced voltage
• High Voltage
• Low Voltage
• Loss of a phase
• Phase reversal

Oh wait, I don’t think I have the correct terminology. I think I meant to say “Blowing Wind”. Yes, that is much better. 

There are many reasons one would need to measure wind velocity. Carlo Gavazzi has the perfect wind turbine components to do just this. The DWS Series Anemometers,  cup anemometers measure wind velocity from 3.4 to 67 MPH (5.4 to 108 km/hr). My first guess would be photos of electricity gone wild. My next guess would be photos of electric voltage boxes. Personally,   I think photos of electricity gone wild would be a lot more fun to look at. Since we sell photovoltaic/solar energy management solutions I figured I should find out the real definition and who might use these systems.

Here is the technical definition of photovoltaic material:  Photovoltaic material converts solar radiation into direct current electricity. That being said, how do you use it? The Carlo Gavazzi Eos-Array is a system of modular components that provide efficient, local control of a solar plant. The Eos-Box is a web server that controls and supervises the whole installation! You must start with the VMU-M, the master module. You can then add up to 15 VMU-S modules (variable measuring unit), 1 VMU-P (environmental measuring unit) and 7 VMU-O modules (necessary to be used in combination with VMU-M modules.

I don’t know about you, but I happen to like have fingers, arms and for that matter all of my body parts. My job does not put me in situations where I may lose body parts. Of course sometimes I lose my mind, OK more than sometimes, at least once a day, but that is not the same risk as those of you working in industrial settings.

No matter what industry you work in, there will be inherent risk. If you happen to work with a cardboard bailing machine you are aware this can be a very dangerous machine. You must make sure  all safety features are functioning properly on all baling and compacting machines. A key safety feature is an enabling switch. These switches are designed to operate in only one position causing a stop condition in any other position. In hazardous locations, the safety guard may need to be enabled. An enabling switch allows machine operation only when specific procedures have been met. These machines must only be run when all safety interlocks are engaged. Please keep all of your fingers and other body parts. Enabling switches can help.

I started to think about personal body temperature as I was talking to a hot (as in intense) co-worker this morning. We were laughing and thinking about how to “cool him off”.  Then, as I started to write, I thought “I need this more than he does”. Now that I am almost 50, (aaugh, how did that happen?) I could really use an automated body temperature control. Ask anyone around me, sweater on, sweater off, sweater on, sweater off all day long.   

As far as I know a personal mechanical temperature has not been invented.   However, at Marshall Wolf Automation, we offer many temperature control products. Autonics, Panasonic and Simpson are just a few of the brands we carry. One particular controller we carry is the Series TC3YF from Autonics. This is a designated Cooling/Defrost Digital Temperature Controller. (Note, if I think about a nice cold refrigerator will my body temperature go down?)  Refrigeration equipment manufacturers will find these ideal for their needs. The controller maximizes the cooling efficiency of the freezer by removing ice and frost with an auto/manual defrost function. The display range is between -40-212°F with a NTC thermistor input or -148-212°F with a RTD input.
