Even though i have worked with Altech for years, I didn't really know much about the corporation itself. As always, a quick search online gave me all the information I needed!

Altech® introduces a new version of its UL508 manual motor controllers. This new miniature circuit breaker incorporates a reinforced housing for improved durability, offers both box and ring tongue terminals as standard, and includes a clear cover for easily tagging the circuit. This latest version maintains the UL listing using the same internals and materials.

These breakers can deliver reliable performance in a wide range of applications, including motors, appliances, lighting, wiring protection, transformers, power supplies, industrial controls, and semiconductors, among others.

The breakers are offered in 6 trip curves and in ampere ratings from 0.3-60A with voltage ratings of 480Y/277VAC and 24-80VDC, depending on the breaker configuration. They are compact at 17.5mm wide per pole and are available in 1, 2, and 3 poles. All are designed for easy DIN rail mounting.

Altech was the first and remains the leader in the U.S. market for UL508 manual motor controllers. Only Altech offers three UL ratings (489, 508, and 1077) to provide users with a variety of cost-effective solutions to satisfy particular application requirements. These breakers may not be as large as their other family members but they provide overload protection and fault current protection just like air circuit breakers, power breakers and insulated case breakers. They can also provide many other selective or special protective functions.

The WEG ACW series of molded case circuit breakers  is available with UL489 certification and comes in four different compact frames. The Weg ACW Series will assure top performance for power distribution on both thermal and short-circuit protection from 15 to 800Amps.

They may be mini but they're certainly mighty!  Altech® UL489 miniature molded case circuit breakers offer the highest rating in the industry for their type and have been engineered to deliver reliable performance in a wide range of applications. Typical applications include transit, communications, battery systems, UPS systems, cranes, among others.

Altech's TD/TS-Series of MCBs is also UL489 listed and allows for flange mount disconnect facility. This is a cable driven system with interrupt capacities up to 100 KA, on a 240 volt design and 65 KA on the 480 volt designs.Applications include power distribution, power generation and motors.

Here are the basics on these two popular types of miniature circuit breakers; UL489 and UL1077.

UL489 Circuit Breakers (Branch Protection)

• Branch circuit protection in control panels, motor control centers and panel boards
• Motor overload and motor short circuit protection for control panels and motor control centers
• Stand-alone branch circuit protection

UL1077 Circuit Breakers (Supplementary Protection)

• Not suitable for the protection of branch circuit conductors - supplemental protectors do not have standard overload characteristic performance levels and cannot assure proper protection of branch circuits.
• For use where branch circuit protection is already provided or is not required
• Generally used with control circuits, control power transformers, relays, PLC I/O, lighting circuits, appliances
• Over-current or over-/under- voltage protection
• Excellent fuse replacement when fuses are applied as supplementary protection
